Musique v1.2 By John Portwin ============ The Psion 3a Music Editor and Player ==================================== What is it? ----------- Musique is a fully featured, multi channel music player and editor for the Psion 3a. If you don't know what a Psion 3a is, you've just wasted a download ;-) Musique is better than its competitors because you can make your Psion play *two* channels of music AT THE SAME TIME! The note editor doesn't rely on overcomplicated staves and musical notation - it simply says the name, octave and duration of the note in plain English. So even if you can't read music, you can still use Musique! Once you've entered your notes you can change the tempo of the overall song, transpose parts of it, even give it a name and title. Then you can save it in a very compact format - just 4 bytes per note! What do I do with it? --------------------- All you need to do is copy MUSIQUE.OPA into your \APP directory on your Psion. That's it! No messy data files, picture files, etc. Then install it (from the system screen) by pressing PSION-I together. Then highlight the Musique icon (with "Musique" displayed below it) and press enter. This will load Musique, and you will see the title screen. A directory \MSF will automatically be created on your disk. Then you will be shown the new song dialog box. How do I do it? --------------- Now enter the name you want for the song and the composer's name. You can then specify how many channels you want your song to have. Press enter and select the filename you want to save as. Then you are taken to the main menu. Under the "Song" menu, select Editor, and then you are taken to the note editor. I and A insert and add notes (select the frequency, octave and duration) - delete erases the currently highlighted note and the arrow keys move the highlight. There are more keys - press help to find out about them. Now to play your newly entered song, quit back to the main menu by hitting escape. Move down the Song menu to Play (making sure Sound is set to on in the system screen!) and your new song will be played. The other main menu options are pretty self-explanatory - you can review the online help which explains them all. Musique works just like any normal application - Psion-N over the system screen's icon lets you enter the filename for a new file, while enter opens the currently highlighted file. Limitations ----------- One of my personal dislikes is software that is so limited you can hardly do anything with it. Musique is not like that. All the key menu options are available in the unregistered version - load, save, the editor of course, and the player as well. The only real limitation is that you are limited to a maximum of two hundred notes on each channel. But if you register, you will get the following benefits: * A maximum of 1024 notes per channel (enough for anyone's needs, but if you do require more, just let me know - the only limit is memory) * You can merge two music files together * You can play specific parts of files instead of the whole thing (comes in very useful for logner tunes!) * You can transpose a range of notes on either channel * And the clear conscience that is assosiated with registering quality software! Go on, i'm sold, how do I register? ----------------------------------- Check the included file, REGISTER.DOC. Registering is œ12. What about the author? ---------------------- The author is 16, has written quality s3a software before :-), and as he writes this he is doing his GCSE's and has two of them tomorrow that he should be revising for :-) I write s3a software in my spare time (and lessons), and I have also done: * Futurelord, currently in revision, make your own colony of the future, with space attacks, mines, armies, buildings and more! Will be released *very* soon. * JPcli, currently v1.61, a quality s3a command line interface with loads of really good features like file editing, encoding, viewing, and loads loads more! Essential for any s3a user. * F1 Manager, currently in development - manage your own F1 team from start to winning championship! High level of realism ensures hours of fun for all. And? ---- The author runs Psychotic Mouse BBS, the essential BBS for any Psion user. We have just about the biggest collection of Psion files (upwards of 750) in the UK, all sorted into sensible areas and we make an effort to make sure that all files are in their current, most recent versions. We also carry the Psion newsgroups comp.sys.psion and comp.binaries.psion, free for all users. The BBS can be reached on +44 1494 758998 (UK). Open 24hr at V.FC. I hope you enjoy Musique! All feedback is appreciated - I can't improve it if people can't tell me the problems! (Look out for a print function in the future!) John. (john@pmbbs.demon.co.uk) - 2:252/337@fidonet.
