Installation ============ Host platforms -------------- We deliver our products via email or on 3.5" floppy discs (1.44 MB IBM Format) On request we can send out 720 kB floppy discs. These formats can be read by PC, Macintosh, Amiga, Atari, Acorn, and others. If you received the software via email or downloaded it from an electronic network you will received it in compressed format (PKZIPF). You will need the latest version of PKUNZIP to decompress the software. On the Macintosh do not use the standard UNZIP utility. Instead, use the ZIPIT utility which you will find on your network. In ZIPIT uncheck the box that says: "By default, smart-strip line feeds from text files." After unzipping you will find a number of documentation files (this file is one of them). They are normally not transferred to the palmtop. The actual program files are contained in the file PRODUCT.ZIP. Please read the file LICENS.TXT before you unzip PRODUCT.ZIP. Installation using PsiWin on a PC --------------------------------- 1. On your PC create a new directory called \3setup. (If such a directory already exists remove all contents.) Unzip the file PRODUCT.ZIP into the new \3setup directory. On the palmtop stop all running applications. 2. Connect your palmtop to your PC, start Remote Link on the palmtop and invoke the PSION Manager on the PC. 3. Using the PSION Manager copy function copy the whole directory \3setup to the internal drive or a RAM SSD. If such a directory already exists on the palmtop, remove it first. Do not use Drag&Drop copy in PSION Manager and do not select the CONVERT option. 4. Choose "Disconnect" in PSION Manager and stop Remote Link on the palmtop. 5. Now install the 3setup installation to the system screen of your palmtop. To do so, invoke the install function. When the file selector box appears press TAB and navigate to the /3setup directory. Select 3setup.opa. 6. The 3setup icon will appear on the system screen. Below the icon you will see a list of available languages. Select the language of your choice and press ENTER. 7. The installation begins. If the product was installed before, 3setup will start a dialog asking you if you want to (Continue) = Overwrite existing version (Other drive) = Install new version on different drive (Options only) = Install options you did not install the first time. 8. 3setup asks you about the drives to use: System drive: Where the programs go to. We recommend a Flash SSD or internal disk. Data drive: Where you keep your data and where example files are installed. We recommend internal disk or RAM SSD. Permanent drive: Where the Morpheus help server will be installed. We recommend the internal disk. 9. 3setup will ask you about optional modules. You can decide to install them now, or you can leave it for later. 10. 3setup will give instructions on how to proceed. 11. After 3setup has finished, delete the whole \3setup directory on the palmtop. You may remove 3setup from the system screen or leave it there if you plan to install another application. Installation using MCLINK or RCOM --------------------------------- This installation method requires far less disk space during installation. It does not need a special installation directory on the palmtop because it installs directly from the PC. 1. On your PC create a new directory called \3setup. (If such a directory already exists remove all contents.) Unzip the file PRODUCT.ZIP into the new \3setup directory. On the palmtop stop all running applications. 2. Connect your palmtop to your PC, start Remote Link on the palmtop and start RCOM or MCLINK on the PC. 3. Set the cursor under the RunOPL-icon (not under the OPL editor!) and press TAB. When the file selection screen appears, press TAB again. In the first line of the dialog box specify the name of the installation directory (where the new software is stored), e.g. REM::C:\3setup\ (assuming the the \3setup directory is on your C drive) A file selection list appears. 4. Select the file 3setup.opa (first file). Press ENTER. 3setup now takes control. The screen goes blank for a few seconds. Don't panic. A file selector box appears. 5. The file selector box shows "Script file". Select a script of your choice: DEUTSCH German language system ENGLISH English language system 6. The file transfer starts. If the product was installed before, 3setup will start a dialog asking you if you want to (Continue) = Overwrite existing version (Other drive) = Install new version on different drive (Options only) = Install options you did not install the first time. 7. 3setup asks you about the drives to use: System drive: Where the programs go to. We recommend a Flash SSD or the internal drive. Data drive: Where you keep your data and where example files are installed. We recommend internal disk or RAM SSD. Permanent drive: Where the Morpheus help server will be installed. We recommend internal disk. 8. 3setup will ask you about optional modules. You can decide to install them now, or you can leave it for later. 9. 3setup will give instructions on how to proceed after the successful transfer. Installation from other platforms (MacIntosh, Acorn, Amiga, Atari, etc.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Proceed as described under "Installation using PsiWin". Instead of using PsiWin to transfer the directory \3setup to your palmtop create such a directory manually and transfer the contents of the host directory \3setup to the palmtop directory \3setup. Stand alone installation ------------------------ This method is used if you downloaded the zipped files directly to your palmtop. 1. Stop all running applications. Create a directory \3setup on the internal disk or a RAM SSD and unzip the file PRODUCT.ZIP into that directory. 2. Proceed from step 5 in "Installation using PsiWin". Guided manual installation -------------------------- This method can be used on all platforms and can be used if disk space on the palmtop is a problem. 1. On your host computer create a new directory called \3setup. (If such a directory already exists remove all contents.) Unzip the file PRODUCT.ZIP into the new \3setup directory. On the palmtop stop all running applications. 2. Connect your Series3 computer to your host computer. Start the host communications software and start Remote Link on the palmtop. 3. Copy 3setup.opa into M:\APP\ . Copy all IPF files (*.IPF) into the same directory M:\APP\ . Install 3setup.opa to the system screen. 4. Position the highlight under 3setup and press ENTER. A file selector box appears. 5. The file selector box shows "Script file". Select a script of you choice: DEUTSCH German language system ENGLISH English language system 6. The installation begins. If the product was installed before, 3setup will start a dialog asking you if you want to (Continue) = Overwrite existing version (Other drive) = Install new version on different drive (Options only) = Install options you did not install the first time. 7. 3setup asks you about the drives to use: System drive: Where the programs go to. We recommend a Flash SSD or internal disk. Data drive: Where you keep your data. We recommend internal disk or RAM SSD. Permanent drive: Where the Morpheus help server will be installed. We recommend internal disk. 8. 3setup will ask you about optional modules. You can decide to install them now, or you can leave it for later. 9. 3setup will ask you to copy files from the /3setup directory on the host computer to a target destination on the PSION. Initiate the file transfer from your host computer. When the file has been transmitted, acknowledge this by pressing ENTER on the PSION. 3Setup will continue with the next file to be copied. 10. After all files have been copied, 3setup will give instructions on how to proceed after the successful transfer. 11. Delete 3setup.opa and the *.ipf files from the \APP directory. Installation on the S3a emulator -------------------------------- The S3a emulator is PSION freeware that was developed originally by PSION for inhouse testing. The emulator is available on several PSION related BBS, CIX, and CompuServe. The emulator runs on PC only. It is able to run as an S3a with the original screensize of 480x160 or up to a screen size of 640x480. The sound capabilities are limited (only a beep and a ring), and there are a few incompatibilities that can make programs behave different. All of our programs have been tested on the emulator and run well - however, some minor hitches may be experienced. If you experience problems and think it is our software, check if the same problems appear on the palmtop. To install a application on the emulator: 1. On your PC create a new directory called \3setup. (If such a directory already exists remove all contents.) Unzip the file PRODUCT.ZIP into the new \3setup directory. 2. Shut down WINDOWS and start the emulator. Place the cursor under the RunOPL icon and press TAB Navigate to C:\3setup\. Select 3setup.opa and press ENTER. (assuming that the \3setup folder is on the C drive). 3. Continue as described with step 4 of "Installation using RCOM or MCLINK" After successful installation you may delete the installation directory C:\3setup (or leave it as a backup). Note: Each time you restart the emulator you have to reinstall all installed applications again to the screen. However, there is a freeware utility called INSTALL14 which can automate this task. Installing several application on one disc ------------------------------------------ To save disk space some of the program modules are shared by several of our applications. These modules are stored in \APP\COMMON\ . At the present stage these are the modules: ABOUT.OPA About box and registration RSSET.OPA Printer drivers DIALSET.OPA Tone dialling \plugs\GIF.OPO GIF import/export filter \plugs\PCX.OPO PCX import/export filter If you install several applications on the same disc manually, make sure to install the latest version of these moduls. Automated installation with 3setup will take care of this. It will replace a module only if the new module has a higher version number. When things go wrong -------------------- If the installation does not run smoothly, do not try to install manually. The chance is that if 3setup or the installation control (IPF) file was corrupted other modules may be corrupted, too. Please read the instructions again and repeat installation. You could also try to use a lower transmission speed between host and PSION. If the problem should persist, check for data corruption. Order another floppy disc, or download again. If the problem still persists, please seek our advice. Morpheus -------- If you want help you need Morpheus. Please do not send us questions "What is Morpheus". Instead read this: One of the tricky things when writing OPL-applications the handling of the HELP-key. Normally an OPL-application is not able to react to the HELP-key when a menu or a dialog box is open. This is unfortunate because this is probably the moment when you need help. That is the reason why we created Morpheus. Morpheus is a independent application which runs in the background and intercepts the HELP-key. Morpheus checks which application is in the foreground and will then display the appropriate help texts. The other function of Morpheus is to handle alarms (for the products ProPoc and HyperPoc). It can do this better than the Agenda. As long as there are alarms scheduled it will run in the background and reschedule new alarms if necessary. Morpheus is launched automatically by any application that uses Morpheus' services. Morpheus will stay active as long as a client application is active or any Morpheus-alarms are scheduled. (The actual shutdown may be delayed for 1 minute). Normally you don't have to shutdown Morpheus manually. Morpheus can serve multiple clients. Even if you run two or more of our products in parallel only one copy of Morpheus is needed. Morpheus is installed on the "permanent drive" - usually the internal disk. The permanent drive should not be removed from the palmtop and cannot be reformatted unless Morpheus is stopped. If you must, here is the way: Install Morpheu2 to the system screen (see PSION user manual) Then KILL Morpheus. If Morpheus was running it will respond with a beep and will die. Remove Morpheus from the system screen (see PSION user manual). Deinstallation -------------- To deinstall the application from you palmtop proceed as follows. 1. First backup your system. 2. Remove the data folder. To locate the data folder, position the cursor under the application icon and press TAB. 3. Remove the application specific files and folders from your system: such as \APP\ProPoc.opa (Example for deinstalling ProPoc) \APP\PROPOC\ M:\propoc.* (For example propoc.ini and propoc.$$$) 4. If you do not have other applications from us such as: F11, HyperPoc, MusiPoc PicPoc, PocDoc, PocView, ProPoc, RepPoc... remove the following files and directories from your system: \APP\MORPHEU2.OPA \APP\MORPHEU2\ M:ALRM.$$$ \APP\COMMON\
