Laptimer - readme v1.0 Released July 1999 This programme is freeware. Introduction I designed this programme primarily so that motor sports fans could use their Psion 5 to calculate times and speeds of competitors when viewing events, and write them to a file. There are plenty of programmes for the Psion series that do the former, none as far as I know that do the latter. I have in the past written a similar programme for the Amstrad Notepad/Notebook series of computers. The programme should also work on the S5mx. How to use At present the programme is a simple ".opo" file that will probably be zipped up with this readme . I suggest that you simply drag the opo file to c:\documents on the 5. To use, simply activate the file. The first time you run the programme you will be presented with a dialogue asking you to enter the name and length of a track. You can enter this as you see fit, in either miles or kilometres. Be advised though that when you use the programme, it will then give you the speed using the units you have input ! From the main programme dialogue screen you can then choose to either add more tracks, delete tracks or proceed to the main programme (having selected a track). In the main programme you will see the track name displayed together with the length (which the user has entered) and a clock (which I thought would be useful). It is now simply a matter of pressing the required keys to utilise the programme. On completion of a lap, the time and speed is written both to the top right side of the screen and to a file called 'times' which is displayed on the main system screen as a text file. Have fun. Possible future developments: • better use of Psion specific keys/menus, etc • ability to time more than one vehicle at a time • possible use of touch-screen technology • possible use of graphical display to represent times/speeds • possible series 3 version of programme if there is a demand (e-mail me !) • display more than one lap-time on screen at a time.
