Piano: Musician's utilities for Psion Series 5 ---------------------------------------------- v2.5, May 27 1998 Shareware by Steve Litchfield (with help from Andrew Giddings and a few others!) What's new for 2.5? -------------------- Pitch selector added; variable concert pitch tuning; 'proper' key and chord charts and sounder buttons; interface prettified and improved (again); battery voltage detection added, with warning and closedown if there's not enough power to support digital sound; tuner and key buttons now respond to keyboard keys of the same name; metronome now flashes red LED in addition to existing mechanisms; What's coming up? ----------------- If I get enough interest in (and registrations from) Piano v2.5, I hope to write a tune recording feature with MIDI import and export. Watch this space! Installation ------------ If you unzipped Piano OK, you should have ended up with 3 separate files. One will be this text file 8-) The other two are SIS files. (Experts) If you know what a .SIS file is, just double-click on each one in Win95 Explorer or tap on it on the Series 5 and you'll be installed in no time. Note that if you've already installed the "music.sis" upgrade, you don't need to do so again. The "piano.sis" is the program itself and must be installed. (Beginners) If you *don't* know what a .SIS file is, this must be one of the very first third party applications you've ever installed. Don't worry, it's all quite painless: IF you have the 'older' PsiWin 2.01 or if you've downloaded Piano directly onto the Psion 5, the best way to proceed is to copy the "piano.sis" file into a suitable place on your Psion. If the file appears on the system screen with a question mark beside it, this just means you haven't yet upgraded your Series 5 to accept EPOC install files. Grab a copy of the special INSTEXE.EXE program from the same place as you obtained Piano and tap on it on your Psion. You should now see a nice little icon beside the "piano.sis" file and can tap on it to complete your installation. *Repeat* the process for "music.sis" if you haven't already done so, as this extra file contains the magic ingredient needed to make Piano work. IF you have PsiWin 2.1, just double-click on the "piano.sis" file to launch EPOC Install on the PC itself and to complete the installation of Piano. If you haven't yet upgraded your Series 5 with the special "music" OPX, you'll need to double-click on "music.sis" as well. If all went well, you should now have a new "Piano" icon on your Extras bar. Expert troubleshooting ---------------------- [For the technically minded, after installation all Piano program files should exist in \system\apps\piano, apart from the sysinfo.opx, sysram1.opx, leds1.opx and music.opx OPL/32 extensions, which should each live in \system\opx ] Registration ------------ To register this software and to support future development, please send a cheque for £10 to: Steve Litchfield 22 Grays Crescent Woodley Reading RG5 3EN Great Britain or use your credit card on-line at http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/register.htm By registering, you'll also salve your guilty conscience(!) and reward me for the time and effort spent developing this program.
