At the time of going to press, we were unable to obtain demo versions of all the games mentioned here. However, where this applies, we've put in a link to the Web site concerned, where there'll hopefully be a downloadable demo available by the time you read this. Apologies to all our readers without Internet access: however, as soon as we get demos of the games we'll include them on our CD.
Broken Sword - Broken Sword gets our vote for the best adventure game of 1996. To go to Virgin Interactive's Web site, click on the button.
Diablo - A stunning and spooky role-playing game. Click here to visit Blizzard's Web site.
Dungeon Keeper - A non-interactive demo of this great anti-role playing game in which you control a labyrinth through which potential heroes travel. To run the demo, go to the GAMES\KEEPER directory and run the go.bat file.
Euro 96 - A wonderfully realistic game with great pass-by-pass commentary. At
the time of going to press we couldn't get hold of a demo version of Euro 96. However, click the button on the left to go to the Euro 96 Web site.
Formula One Grand Prix 2 - A great racing game with a multi-player system and flexible options. Unfortunately we couldn't get hold of a demo version at the time of going to press, but click on the button and you'll go to Microprose's Web site.
Fred - Talk to Fred and he remembers what you say, even from previous conversations!
Laser Blocks - Destroy falling blocks by connecting pipes with this Tetris-style game.
Magic Squares - Pit your wits against your PC in this battle of numbers.
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - The king of the monster robot games. At the time of going to press we couldn't get hold of a demo version of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.
However, if you click the button on the left you'll go to the Mechwarrior 2 Web site.
Privateer 2: The Darkening - The best space combat game in the business! At the time of going to press we couldn't get hold of a demo version of Privateer 2. Click the button on the left to go to the Privateer 2 Web site.
Red Alert - This gets our vote for the best war game of 1996; it came up against some pretty stiff opposition too. At the time of going to press we couldn't get hold of a demo version of Red Alert, but click the button on the left to go to the Virgin Interactive Web site.
Smash 'Em - Smash the moles, rats and other small creatures as they scurry across your screen. Animal lovers don't worry: it's not as bloodthirsty as it sounds!
Super EF2000 - Flight simulators are a perennial favourite and this year saw the best with Super EF2000. At the time of going to press we were unable to get hold of a demo version, but click on the button to go to the EF2000 Web site.
Worms - A great game that appeals to the darker side of human nature. Pitch your team of worms against others and blast 'em away!
