The code of NewPolidiom 1.0 will be rewritten and improved regularly; new items shall be added. Most of the time these improved versions will sooner be available then the updated help files.
We tried to produce a user friendly program with an interface that should look familiar to every PC or PDA user. In this case this version of NewPolidiom may contain menu commands that are not described in this manual. Don’t hesitate to experiment : by mistake selecting an unknown key or button, will not cause a disaster .
NewPolidiom 1.0 is a shareware program that provides with elementary editable vocabulary lists (several languages). It is possible to create new files, edit existing ones and to exercise on both these self-made files and the lexicons that come with .

The program itself is not free ( see “LICENCE AGREEMENT”); the dictionaries are free.

Select EXTRA | NewPolidiom.
The unregistered version will first show a window with some information about the use of the evaluation version. If you want to enter the password to register, press the “Register”-Button. If you want to evaluate press “Continue.
When the program starts the “Open existing file…” dialog prompts you to open a file. Select a file and press the OK- Button ( the Cancel-Button does not react at this moment). Now you can start searching the translation(s) of words, adding, deleting or modifying entries of the open file, exercise vocabulary or create new files.

In this version the ZOOM commands are not active. To widen the screen you can toggle the MENU | View | Show Toolbar command: the toolbar, i.e. the part of the display showing the buttons and clock, will disappear or appear again.
To read the text in case the width of a word exceeds the width of the column or the screen, just tab the line with the stylus in the column half the word is displayed in: a line with the text appears in the right lower corner of the screen; when you tab on the number, both the word and the translation will appear.
Next versions will implement zoom, choice of fonts and adjustable column width.

In the dialog select a folder and type a filename for your new file. Press the OK-Button to create and open the file or the Cancel-Button to return without creating a new file.

Select MENU | File | Open existing file…
In the dialog select a folder and a filename. Press the OK-Button to open the file or the Cancel-Button to continue without opening it.
After opening the file the two columns are displayed. When the file is empty, the text “Empty file” appears on the screen.
The open file is not sorted : to sort the file see the “Sort” topic.

Select MENU | Files | Open Dictionary…
The ‘Open Dictionary’ Menu command allows you to open a dictionary file, using the info added to the dictionaries list via the ‘Settings|Dictionaries|Add Dictionary info…”.
From a list of the dictionary names select one; the listed file will have the chosen headers above each column.

To close the program select Menu | File | Close or Press the “Close”-Button ( = 4th) of the toolbar.
In the dialog “Really quit?” press the Yes-Button to close or the No-Button to return without closing.
When you close the program, all open files are closed end saved except the temporary ffiles (exercises and searches).

Select Menu | Wordlist | Find… or press the Find-Button on the toolbar (=1°).
A dialog( without any buttons) appears. Type in the word you are searching. If you want to search the second column, check the checkbox(use the stylus or the TAB-KEY). Press the ENTER-KEY to make the search or use the ESC-KEY to close the dialog.
Use “*” to replace one or more letters or “?” to replace one letter.
Examples:
Select Menu | Wordlist | Add… or press the Add-Button on the Toolbar. A dialog appears. Fill in the word in the box next to “ADD” and its translation in the one next to “TRANSLATION”. Press the Add-Button (Enter-Key).Confirm you want to add the entry by pressing “Yes” in the next dialog.
By pressing “Cancel” or “No” you can cancel the adding of the entry.
Synonyms: Modify change
Select Menu | Wordlist | Modify entry… or press the Modify-Button on the toolbar.
A dialog prompts to type one of the two items in the entry ( you can use wildcards).A second dialog containing the entry appears: make the modifications (or don’t change the entry) and press continue. The entry is replaced by the new one.

A dialog prompts to type one of the two items in the entry ( you can use wildcards).A second dialog containing the entry appears: You can now delete the entry or cancel without deleting.
There are two ways of exercising

Select Menu | View | Go to …. In the dialog box fill in a word or letters mixed with wildcards. Check or uncheck the box to select the column to search. Press Enter : if the item is in the list the programme will scroll to this word.

This copy of NewPolidiom 1.0 comes with some dictionaries. These are all dictionaries translating to and from the English language. More dictionaries can be found on www.NewPolidiom.com these files include translations to and from other languages. You are free to download these files without fee.
If you wish to continue using NewPolidiom 1.0 after the 21 days evaluating period, you have to purchase a licence. A licence number will be sent to you. To register enter your name and licence number in the registration dialog.

This Licence Agreement ("AGREEMENT") is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or an organisation such as a company) and Ivo Ponsen.
This licence agreement covers the use of NewPolidiom 1.0. By installing or otherwise using NewPolidiom1.0, you agree to be bound by the terms of this AGREEMENT. If you do not agree to the terms of this AGREEMENT, Ivo Ponsen will not licence NewPolidiom 1.0 to you. In such event, you may not use or copy NewPolidiom 1.0 and you must destroy any copies of the NewPolidiom 1.0 in your possession.
This AGREEMENT constitutes the entire agreement and understanding between the parties with respect to its subject matter and replaces all previous written or oral agreements, including all express or implied terms, and all representations between, or undertakings by, the parties with regard to such subject matter. This AGREEMENT cannot be changed except by written agreement between the parties.
PRODUCT LICENCE
Newpolidiom 1.0 is protected by international copyright laws and treaty provisions, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. NewPolidiom 1.0 is licensed, not sold.
GRANT OF LICENCE
This AGREEMENT grants you the following rights:
The non-exclusive and limited right to use one copy of the NewPolidiom 1.0 by you (if you are an individual) or by any employee (if you are an organisation).This use is free during 21 days; if you wish to use NewPolidiom 1.0 after this period, you have to register and pay a licence fee.
The right to make a single back-up copy of NewPolidiom 1.0. during the 21 days evaluation period and after registering. You may use the back-up copy solely for back-up and archival purposes.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS
a) Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Newpolidiom 1.0 , except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law. Notwithstanding this limitation, Ivo Ponsen will terminate this Agreement if you attempt or have attempted to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble NewPolidiom 1.0 in breach of this provision.
b) Rental. You may not rent or lease NewPolidiom 1.0.
c) Redistribution. You are free to distribute unregistered copies of NewPolidiom 1.0 for free in order to let evaluate the program.
d) You may not transfer any of your rights under this AGREEMENT.
f) Termination. The AGREEMENT lasts until you terminate it by destroying all copies of NewPolidiom 1.0. If you fail to comply with the conditions of the AGREEMENT, then Ivo Ponsen will terminate the AGREEMENT and you will be required, by the terms and conditions of the AGREEMENT, to destroy all copies of NewPolidiom 1.0.
UPDATES
UPDATES may be made available by time to time. By installing or otherwise using such UPDATES you agree to be bound by any ADDITIONAL TERMS that may accompany such UPDATES. If you do not agree with such ADDITIONAL TERMS you may not install, copy or otherwise use such UPDATES.

IN NO EVENT UNLESS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW WILL IVO PONSEN BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR DAMAGES, (WHETHER ARISING IN CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) INCLUDING ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST MONIES, LOST TIME, LOSES ATTRIBUTABLE IN WHOLE OR PART TO ANY DEFECTS IN THE DESIGN OR PERFORMANCE OF NEWPOLIDIOM 1.0 OR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE NEWPOLIDIOM 1.0 (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA OR DATA BEING RENDERED INACCURATE OR LOSSES SUSTAINED BY THIRD PARTIES EVEN IF IVO PONSEN HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY ANY OTHER PARTY.
