Have you ever wondered why - in this supposedly wireless world
in which we live - you have to use a serial cable to connect your Psion to your
PC? Well actually you don't! All recent Psions (Series 5, 5mx, revo,
mako, Series 7, netBook, etc.) come equipped with an Infrared port (sometimes
called 'IR' or 'IrDA') which you can use to link to your PC or laptop if it has
an Infrared port too. The following articles describe how you can set this link up
on your machine and configure PsiWin to work over the link as though you had the
standard cable connected...
The original article (+ hints &tips) of how to get your EPOC machine to link to Windows'95 and Windows'98 is here. (Written July '98, last update May 2001) The Using IrDA with Windows Me article is here. (Written 2000, last update May 2001) The Using IrDA with Windows 2000 and Windows XP article is here. (Written November 2001, last update May 2003)
NB: It's worth noting that - as can be seen above - some of these articles were written some years ago. Whilst they all worked at the time, I've not used anything except Windows XP recently and on the now relatively rare ocassions that I use IR transfer, it's usually single files using plBeam. Hence, if you ask me any questions about anything, I'm liable to be trawling from memory when I reply!
