plFEP thanks to FEP (Front End Processor) technology expands capabilities of standard text editing fields (in dialogs, text editors and other coontrols for example) adding following functions:
- Multi Clipboard (8 clipboards intependent from a standard one)
- Capability of inserting special characters from currently selected font
- Text conversion from one codepage to another (in fact 38 to choose from)
- Capability of sending text through infrared port (either IrOBEX or EPOC standard)
- Capability of inserting text received through infrared (plBeam needs to be installed to make it work)
- Insertion of text file contents (import function with codepage conversion capability)
- Saving of text file capability (export with codepage conversion capability)

Thanks to plFEP you can for example convert e-mail received in ISO 8859-2 to CP 1250 and further on send it through infrared to your laptop computer with Windows installed where it will be received as ordinary text file.
A second example could be Jotter application that lacks export and import of text capability. You can expoert choosen record to text file or send through infrared to your pal who has a Palm palmtop.

All happens instantly without any additional steps or indirect operations.
plFEP after installation requires to be activated. That takes place in Control Panel where plFEP icon is located. After being run a dialog pops up with a choice of enabling or disabling the program.
After being run plFEP doesn't occupy additional memory. It's just loaded automatically by applications that use text editing fields like text editors for example.
When plFEP is active in the memory in the lower right corner of the text editing field an icon appears. If you touch it a plFEP menu will pop up.
Alternativelly plFEP can be activated when you keep Fn key pressed untill menu comes up.
plFEP manu can only be activated if its icon is being shown on the screen it means only in text editing fields.
